Our practicum team traveled to Leyte, an island in the Eastern Visaya chain of the Philippines, over the January break to perform a qualitative assessment of people’s resilience to natural disaster as part of a project for Mercy Corps. We are currently working on evaluating both the qualitative and quantitative data, and some of our initial findings have surprised us.

WE WERE ASKED TO COME UP WITH A BUSINESS CASE FOR INVESTING IN SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) ENERGY IN CAMBODIA. THE CHALLENGE WAS TO FIND A COMMERCIALLY VIABLE BUSINESS MODEL THAT WOULD NOT RELY ON GRANTS OR SUBSIDIES. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE LESS STRAIGHT FORWARD THAN WE ANTICIPATED.
While one might think the greatest challenge with respect to teaching skills like world citizenship, digital literacy, and collaboration is how to teach them, one Indian organization, ASER Centre, seeks to measure them.
