The 1940s were a great decade for London. This photo was taken during a celebration for the end of World War II in London. World War II ended with the unconditional surrender of the Axis powers. On May 8, 1944, the Allies accepted Germany's surrender about a week after Adolf Hitler had committed suicide. VE Day - Victory in Europe celebrates the end of the Second World War every year on May 8.
